Report Hate

It takes 5-10 minutes to report. Your answers are 100% confidential.

You can report racism, anti-immigrant hate, and other forms of bias or discrimination targeting Asian and Pacific Islander people in the United States. That includes racial slurs, physical attacks or threats, unfair treatment, hateful online or media content, and racial profiling.

Why Reporting Matters

Each individual report gives us a fuller picture of the current state of anti-AA/PI hate and helps bring awareness to the problems our communities face; drive policy advocacy; and cultivate solidarity in the face of racism and discrimination.

Reporting makes the invisible visible.
Most anti-AA/PI hate doesn’t make the headlines. By documenting acts of hate large and small, our reporting center brings public attention to everyday examples of racism and discrimination that all too often go dismissed.

Reporting drives social change.
When you report an act of hate, you help us sound the alarm about anti-AA/PI hate and make the case for the policies, resources, and protections we all need to thrive. It’s your chance to turn a painful experience into a force for good.

Reporting is collective resistance.
Personal stories reveal the human side of racism that numbers alone can’t capture. By sharing them with the world, we can shift public understanding about what hate looks like — and remind others that they are not alone.

FAQs

Who can report an act of hate?

Anyone can submit a report. If you have experienced an act of hate targeting Asian or Pacific Islander communities, or have witnessed one, you are welcome to fill out our reporting form — whether or not you self-identify as Asian or Pacific Islander. Our reporting form is available in 20 AA/PI languages — making it possible for people of many backgrounds and language proficiencies to share their experiences with us.

However, we do not respond to every hate act report that we receive. We collect reports to better understand and advocate for our communities, but we are not a direct service provider. When appropriate, we may share publicly available resources, including those on our resource page.

Please see our Resources page for more information.

What is a hate act?

A hate act includes words or actions motivated by bias against one or more personal characteristics including race, gender, or sexual orientation. Stop AAPI Hate reports on acts of bias targeting Asian and Pacific Islander people, including but not limited to verbal harassment, workplace discrimination, school bullying, physical assault, vandalism, unfair treatment as a customer, and racist media content.

A fraction of hate acts are hate crimes — or bias-motivated criminal offenses. The Department of Justice explains, “The ‘crime’ in hate crime is often a violent crime, such as assault, murder, arson, vandalism or threats to commit such crimes.” However, our reporting center documents all hate acts and not just those that would be investigated as hate crimes.
